The Commissioner’s Letter — Week 1 Playoffs

From the Desk of Mr. Pop

Well, well, well… the playoffs showed up and everyone suddenly remembered how to shoot a basketball.

Three out of four teams posted their highest totals of the season. That’s what pressure does, kids. It squeezes the nerves out of you and leaves nothing but cold-blooded jumpers. But here’s the thing, if everyone rises to the occasion, the big dogs still eat first.

#1 seed San Diego Garage Crew handled business against the Pro Wrestling Tees Slammers, 2128–1750. Let’s be clear: the Slammers played their best ball of the season, just picked the wrong week to run into a juggernaut.

#2 seed Motor City Sharpshooters held off a late charge from the Skyline Swishers—who dropped over 2000 for the first time all season. Final: 2158–2079. That’s what we old-timers call a “shootout.”

And now… now we've got ourselves a matchup.

The Finals

San Diego Garage Crew vs. Motor City Sharpshooters

Pick your storyline, folks:

  • The Garage Crew has been the top-scoring squad every week… except week 1 of the playoffs, where Motor City outscored them by 30.
  • San Diego Captain Chris Murphy only played five games. Saving his shoulder? Mind games? Load management?
  • Reports out of Detroit suggest the Sharpshooters are dealing with slick balls. An effect of the humidity drop… or just excess palm sweat?

Bottom line: it’s championship week, and I’m jacked to the stitches. My cardiologist advised against this level of excitement, but I told him, “Guy… you ever seen a 40-year-old arcade game unite the nation?” Didn’t think so.
