I’ve waited a long time for this week.
Not just because the season is finally here—but because we get to welcome nine new teams into the league. New faces. New bars. New shooting styles that make me mutter things like, “Well… that’s one way to do it.”
We’ve also got a few familiar teams who showed up with re-tooled lineups, fresh ideas, and the kind of optimism that only exists before Week 2.
And I’d be remiss not to start with the Sip N Flip Hoopsters.
After a 1–5 finish last season, they didn’t sulk. They didn’t make excuses. They went shopping.
They hit the free agent market and signed SeanyB. In Week 1 that move paid immediate dividends—leading Sip N Flip to a statement win over Buzzer Beater Anonymous. Keep an eye on the Buzzer Beaters, though. I like the energy, and if they get their practice reps in, they’ve got a bright future.
Now, an important housekeeping note—and pay attention here, because this matters.
With this many teams and a wide range of experience levels, we are officially running two divisions this season:
- Division 1 consists of teams with higher scoring averages
- Division 2 consists of teams with lower scoring averages
This is not a judgment. It’s just math.
At the end of the regular season:
- The top 4 teams in Division 1 will advance to the D1 Playoffs and compete for the D1 Championship
- The top 4 teams in Division 2 will advance to the D2 Playoffs and compete for the D2 Championship
The goal here is simple: closer matchups, better competition, and meaningful games all season long.
And speaking of close games, in our game of the week the Seattle Superbirds squeaked past Dudes A Poppin' by just 27. The Superbirds off-season acquisition, Naimless, a prospect out of Arizona, finished as the team's second highest scorer.
And with that, Week 1 is in the books.
Some teams got confirmation. Others got homework.
That’s league play.
Enjoy the wins. Learn from the losses. And good luck in Week 2.
