We caught up with Josh Caputo — 2024 Pop-A-Shot National Champion, 2025 semifinalist, and now captain of the Deep Swish Pizza Pop-A-Shot Virtual League squad — to talk about building a team with family and friends, defending his reputation one week at a time, and bringing championship habits into league play. From barcade home courts to inside jokes and jersey-powered superstition, Caputo’s crew blends proven talent with pure fun.

Pop-A-Shot: Thanks for the time Josh, let's start with an easy one. Who's on the team? How do you know each other? 
 

Josh Caputo: Myself, my wife Brianna, and our best friends Bryan and Jenna. We’ve known each other since High School and literally can’t get anything accomplished without the four us pitching in.

 

Pop-A-Shot: Was there a try-out? What was the "recruitment" process like?
 

Josh Caputo: There was not a tryout. I basically just paid the league fee and told them we’re doing this and now they’re all addicted.
 

Pop-A-Shot: Love to hear that they are now addicted. Does each player play on the team have a role? For example, is someone the hype man? Someone always pay for the beers? 
 

Josh Caputo: Myself, I’m the captain, coach, trainer. Brianna is the “I’m just gonna get all my games done” person. Jenna is the “how much do we need to cover the spread” person. And Bryan is the “I’m just happy to be included” guy.

Pop-A-Shot: Every team has to have someone that is just happy to be there. Speaking of which, where is the team's "home court" for the league? How'd you describe it in a few words?

 

Josh Caputo: Rec Haus in St. Charles, IL - barcade that keeps our children busy while we play, however, we did lose approximately $100 to the claw machines on our first weekend there.
 

Pop-A-Shot: Ouch, hopefully they won something. Does the team or team members have any Pop-A-Shot related traditions, rituals, superstitions?

 

Josh Caputo: We found out that Bryan plays his best ball when he wears my national championship jersey. And yes, there’s video proof of this.
