We sat down with the Skyline Swishers, to talk about last season’s breakout run in the inaugural Pop-A-Shot Virtual League, barroom Pop-A-Shot culture, and why Denver has quietly become one of the league’s toughest stops.

The Captain, Bobby Derian, aka BDERIAN, is no stranger to high-level competition, having competed in both the St. Louis and Chicago qualifiers last season, and he’s doubled down since, installing two Pop-A-Shot Elite games at his bar, Skyline Pub, a neighborhood sports bar where many of these league relationships were first formed.

After leading the Swishers to a third-place finish in Season 1—and turning heads with one of the most memorable performances of the year, Derian and his squad enter Season 2 with confidence, continuity, and a home court that might be the best Pop-A-Shot setup Denver has to offer.

What follows is a mostly accurate transcript, edited for clarity, brevity, and journalistic integrity.

q&a with the captain of skyline swishers

Pop-A-Shot: What was morale like after last season? For new readers, the Swishers finished 3rd overall, but turned heads by winning the 3rd place game with the league's highest weekly total of the season, 2252 points!

Derian: It helped us sleep during the offseason knowing the title was in reach. Murph was obviously scared so he sat out season 2.

Pop-A-Shot: And it seems like you're on your way to another great season. Any specific cause behind the strong start? Off-season training? Pregame meditation? PEDs?

Derian: Smelling Salts & Booze is our PED. If BAC during league play was a thing, just engrave Skyline Swishers in the trophy now.

Pop-A-Shot: Haha, noted. Any other team traditions?

Derian: We always play on Tuesdays. TOGGLE TUESDAYS! And Neupacc brings his laptop to keep stats.

Pop-A-Shot: Speaking of Neupacc, it turns out he's one of the few two handed shooters in the league. Has he experimented as a single hand shooter? Two handed for life?

Derian: *editor's note, the first portion of the response has been removed due to its graphic nature*
“No offense to the rest of the league, but I like a challenge. Anyone can shoot a 160 with their dominant hand. Shooting with both makes every game interesting. Give it a try sometime” -Neupacc

Pop-A-Shot: Any opposing players you have your eye on this season?

Derian: Michael Pashkow, of Pop It Like It's Hot, flew to Denver in the offseason and broke our all time high score with a 190 (it’s on the chalkboard above our Elite). We’ve been staring at this stupid thing for months 😡 😡

Scott Setzke, of Motor City Sharpshooters, also posted a couple videos talking trash last season too. His wet balls are gonna get dried up this season.

Pop-A-Shot:  Seems like Setzke annoys more than just his own teammates. Interesting. Anything else you'd like to share?

Derian: All jokes aside, season 1 was a blast. Hoping season 2 brings out even more competition, and we're looking forward to seeing how big these small balls can get nationwide!

third place won't cut it

With a third-place finish already on the résumé, a record-setting performance still fresh in everyone’s memory, and a home court that’s become a proving ground for some of the league’s best shooters, the Skyline Swishers enter Season 2 as anything but underdogs. Between Toggle Tuesdays, meticulous stat tracking, and a competitive edge fueled by equal parts confidence and chaos, Derian’s group has made it clear they’re chasing more than respect this year. If Season 1 proved they belong, Season 2 looks like a statement in the making.
