The bright lights of Las Vegas were the perfect setting for our most electric Pop-A-Shot National Championship Qualifier yet. Held during NBA Summer League at the iconic Thomas & Mack Arena at UNLV, the Las Vegas Qualifier was more than just another competition; it was a full-blown Pop-A-Shot takeover.

With four Pop-A-Shot Elite arcade games set up right on the Summer League concourse, thousands of fans, future NBA hopefuls, and basketball junkies got a chance to show off their shot from July 10th to 12th, 2025. But for those with championship aspirations, this qualifier was a serious opportunity. The rules were simple: open play ran from 11:30 a.m. (when doors opened) to 8:00 p.m. each day, and the highest score across the three days would punch the final ticket to the 2025 Pop-A-Shot National Championship.

The Qualifier: A Three-Day Battle for One Spot

Day one opened with a bang as JAKEMONNIG, who previously claimed the #1 seed at the Chicago Qualifier, stormed out to a massive 163-point score early in the day. JANTAWN followed closely behind with a 160, setting the tone for an intense competition. As the day wound down, the leaderboard was stacked, but JAKEMONNIG held the top spot.

On day two, competitors kept the heat on, with many pushing into the high 120s and 130s. By the end of the second day, the leaderboard was filled with scores over 124, but no one had dethroned JAKEMONNIG. Notably, 2024 National Championship runner-up BRETTKARZEN made a surprise appearance, drawing attention from fans and competitors alike.

Day three was where the magic happened. MURPH (Chris Murphy) arrived early and immediately put up a 155, showing that he was there with serious intentions. Meanwhile, AGNO, who had quietly been building momentum since day two, was landing in the 150s consistently. Then, with only three hours left in the event, MURPH dropped a stunning 164, becoming the new leader and forcing everyone else to chase.

With the clock ticking down, the energy in the arena hit a fever pitch. Organizers pulled the top seven competitors who were still present and moved them to two dedicated games for the final hour. These were the players who had been grinding since day one, many of whom had flown in specifically for a shot at Pop-A-Shot glory. The last hour produced some of the most competitive and high scoring games we’ve seen all season. A single ball bouncing the wrong way in the final seconds could be the difference between qualifying and falling short.

This leaderboard not only reflects the most competitive qualifier we’ve had to date but also the highest average scoring we’ve seen all year. With players having three full days to play on four machines, the line times were minimal and the gameplay was maximized. Over 5,200 games were played during the event, making this qualifier the most active by volume.

And while I’m not one for hot takes, I’m going to put it out there and say it will be less than 25 years before the next Pop-A-Shot National Championship. Why? Because people nationwide keep asking for it!

I’ve lost track of the number of letters I’ve received on my computer (editor’s correction: emails) saying they could beat Champion Josh Caputo’s highest score of 153, and a few of them have already proved it! I see nine scores of 150+ on our Pop-A-Shot Leaderboard including one from our 2024 Championship runner-up Brett Morse-Karzen. 2nd place never sleeps!

The watercooler chatter at Pop-A-Shot HQ is that 2025 may have more than a National Championship tournament. There’s potential for leagues and local tourneys at your neighborhood bar (order a Pabst for me), as well as 3-4 regional tournaments leading up to the Natty.

Register today if you’d like to be the first to hear about these additional competitions.  And make sure to note if you’re interested in hosting one. We had 250 players show up to our qualifying tournament on a Wednesday, sooooo, that’s not a bad bar tab.

Pop-A-Shot Takes Over NBA Summer League

The qualifier wasn’t the only Pop-A-Shot presence in Vegas. We had two additional Elite arcade games set up in the arena tunnel, providing exclusive access for NBA players, team personnel, and media members before and after Summer League matchups. These tunnel games were also rolled out for halftime contests, providing fans with entertaining mini-competitions on the big stage.

One of the highlights came during a halftime break in the Hornets vs. 76ers game when two young fans were invited to battle it out in a Pop-A-Shot showdown. Commentators Bojo and Lethal Shooter hyped the moment live in the arena, making for a memorable and energetic experience that left the crowd buzzing.

Meanwhile, Pop-A-Shot had a presence in the NBA Summer League media studio with one game reserved for casual play and media demos. Reporters and influencers alike got their chance to test their skills and see what makes the Elite model a fan favorite.

The Pop-A-Shot Slot Machine

As if that wasn’t enough, Pop-A-Shot was also spinning across Las Vegas with our new Pop-A-Shot-themed slot machine. Fans could find it at select casinos including Circus Circus and Downtown Grand. The slot machine brought the classic arcade feel to the casino floor, combining Pop-A-Shot's brand energy with Vegas' love for gaming.

Wrapping Up: Vegas Was a Slam Dunk

The Las Vegas Qualifier was a celebration of competition, community, and the growing presence of Pop-A-Shot in mainstream basketball culture. It was our most immersive event yet, blending serious gameplay with fun, fan-friendly moments across multiple locations during one of the most exciting weeks in basketball.

Congrats to MURPH for securing the final spot in the 2025 Pop-A-Shot National Championship. The road to the title has never been more competitive, and we can’t wait to see what unfolds when the best of the best face off in August.
